What is an “Un-Toy”? At 4C Play & Learn we refer to things that most people have around the house that can be turned into play materials as “Un-Toys”. These inexpensive items can provide hours of fun for children while they practice important developmental skills.
• Variety of tubes- paper towel, wrapping paper, packing tubes, etc.
• Balls of various size, most that will fit into the tubes- golf balls, ping pong, balls, toy bouncy balls, tennis balls, etc. Variation: toy cars i.e. Matchbox size.
• Boxes, steps, chairs or other ways to raise the tubes to different heights
• Add masking or Duct Tape for attaching tubes together
Provide the materials and encourage your child to find ways to get the balls or cars through the tubes. Encourage trying different heights, putting tubes inside one another, etc. to find many ways for the objects to travel.
Help your child problem solve when an object will go through one tube but not another.
