Un-Toys: Paint Sample Matching

Un-Toys: Paint Sample Matching

What is an “Un-Toy”? At 4C Play & Learn we refer to things that most people have around the house that can be turned into play materials as “Un-Toys”. These inexpensive items can provide hours of fun for children while they practice important developmental skills. This month: Paint Sample Matching

Materials
Clothespins (spring type)
Paint sample cards with 3-4 colors on one sample (2 of each) (available at most home improvement stores like Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, etc.)
Scissors and glue

Instructions
Cut a piece of each color sample the width of the handle of a clothespin
Glue each piece on a separate clothespin
Encourage the child you care for to find the matching colors and clip the clothespin on the card.
*Because paint sample cards typically have different shades of the same color, it is a more challenging activity than most color matching games that use only primary and secondary colors.

Develops
Fine motor skills
Pincer grasp (used for writing)
Geometry concept of sorting and classifying objects
Problem solving
