Do you Know What “Grain-Based Desserts” are?

The Child and Adult Care Food Program are going thru some changes and starting October 1, 2017 CACFP Participants will no longer be able to be reimbursed for serving “Grain-Based Desserts”. This means that they will no longer count toward the grain requirement.

Grain-Based Desserts are identified in Exhibit A in the memorandum CACFP 02-2017 “Grain Requirements in the Child and Adult Care Food Program; ”Questions and Answers”.

Some Common examples include the following items:

  • Sweet Crackers( e.g. graham and animal crackers)

  • Cakes

  • Cookies

  • Sweet Pie Crust

  • Doughnuts

  • Granola Bars

  • Cereal Bars

  • Breakfast Bars

  • Sweet Rolls

  • Toaster Pastries

  • Brownies
